2017 TWC Illustration Contest Winners

03.30.17
posted by Natalie Dekle

And now, the moment for which you all have been waiting! This post shares the winners of our 2017 Illustration Contest.

Over the past couple of months, The Walking Classroom office was inundated with entries for our annual illustration contest! We had a great time looking through many creative and colorful masterpieces. It was truly challenging selecting this year’s winners!

The guidelines . . .

This year’s contest presented several possibilities for student artists. Their end product could be any one of the following:

  1. A picture of a student and classmates walking, listening and learning (and, of course, smiling!).
    OR
  2. An illustration of a favorite podcast.
    OR
  3. A before and after walking picture, showing a student and/or classmates before and then after a Walking Classroom lesson.

By the time we had opened all of those large manila envelopes, we had quite the array of artful illustrations from which to choose. It was not an easy decision!

And the winners are . . .

While there were so many great choices, we finally narrowed it down. We selected the following as the winners in this year’s contest:

First Place:

Izzy, 5th Grade
Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School, MA
Teacher: Kimberly Lynch

Second Place:

Daniella, 4th Grade
Boyden Elementary, MA
Teacher: Christy Rockwood

Third Place:

Elena, 5th Grade
Laurelhurst Elementary, OR
Teacher: Tracy Heinrich

In addition, there were some particularly clever entries that warranted being recognized as well.

Honorable Mentions:

Cierra, 4th Grade
Boyden Elementary, MA
Teacher: Christy Rockwood

***

Emma, 5th Grade
Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School, MA
Teacher: Kimberly Lynch

***

Gael, 5th Grade
St. Elmo Elementary, TX
Teacher: Joy Poole

Some special items are headed to the students who created the winning entries (and to their teachers too!). Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to all those who participated!

Happy Trails!
