TWC improving student note-taking skills

01.06.16
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

My students love The Walking Classroom! We walk 2-3 days weekly. On rainy days, we walk inside or just stay in the room and listen to podcasts. Students take key notes and draw illustrations while listening to the podcasts. They get with a partner and work anywhere in the room they like such as under desks, tables, etc. We do the note-taking on the second day we listen to a podcast.

Students have really learned how to take specific, important, to-the-point notes. Before using these podcasts, they would just write anything down. They feel very important being allowed to have control of the WalkKits this way. We go over our notes using a process called Keep It, Trash It, or Cloud It. Such a cool activity!

My students are so fortunate to have The Walking Classroom program as a learning source. We feel blessed!!

I would also love to hear more about this note taking. I know that many of my students struggle with keeping the facts straight and all the information they get out of the TWC. Awesome idea!

Would love to know more about the process, “Keep it, Trash it, or Cloud it.” The name has definitely peaked my interest.
Rain has hit CA and have been contemplating walking inside the gym, so sounds like my thoughts are not so foreign. Thanks for the incentive to get more “walking” done!
