TWC for Homeschool: Leads to Great Conversations!

01.30.18
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

We have used The Walking Classroom as part of our homeschool curriculum. The kids and I loved it. We really enjoy this easy way to bring learning outside. I love the follow-up questions after we returned from our walk. It is a great way to assess their learning, and the lessons extend to great conversations.

One unexpected benefit for me is that these walks were quiet! Although I love hearing my kids talk, laugh and play, when we went on our first walking classroom walk, I was amazed at how quiet the walk was! I enjoyed just listening to the sounds of nature as my kids walked and learned.

The kids enjoyed learning while getting outside in nature as well. They liked that they could take their school with them, get exercise, and not feel like they were stuck in the same room all day long. The Walking Classroom provided stress relief too.

We have also noticed that our kids will sometimes be a bit lethargic during the school day. Other times, they have that need to burn some energy. A great walk or run always helps in these cases! Having the Walking Classroom also gave us the opportunity to get that much needed break to refresh in the open air or trim the jitters from hyper kids.
