TWC in Afterschool Supplements Learning

06.17.20
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

We are so thankful to have The Walking Classroom curriculum for our afterschool program. It supplements the learning the students receive during the school day, as well as allows them the chance to spend more time outside.

Our lessons have coincided with our weekly themes in our program. The podcasts we have listened to have included Suns, Stars, and Galaxies (4-#78, Complete-#144, STEM-#26), Native American Mound Builders (4-#72, Complete-#96), Gabriel Fahrenheit (4-#25, Complete-#164, STEM-#6), Water Cycle (4-#30, Complete-#148, STEM-#12), and Myths, Legends, and Lore (4-#66, Complete-#39).

Our afterschool program participants are good at retaining the information from the podcasts, even repeating the health information, like the dangers of smoking and eliminating germs. They enjoy walking around the school campus and looking at their environment as they listen to the podcasts. The lesson they seemed to enjoy the most so far was Suns, Stars, and Galaxies, since so many of them are interested in science and outer space.

We are very excited to continue to use The Walking Classroom next year!
