Students Begin and End the Week with TWC

08.01.18
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

At our school, students begin and end their week with The Walking Classroom. We walk on Monday and Friday mornings. Every week, the students are excited to discover which new topics they will be learning about. We’ve even noticed that absences on Mondays and Fridays have decreased!

Because the students have learned to focus while listening to the podcasts, they are doing a better job at listening and focusing in class. It’s very rewarding when they are able to make connections during in-class instruction with vocabulary or content from The Walking Classroom.

The independence has created confidence in these learners. Students feel more confident that they are one step ahead. They also have become very efficient at getting ready to go and walking in two straight lines, being responsible, and keeping each other on track.

The students really think of our walking time as “fun” rather than just working on another “subject.” The topics encourage them to think outside of our curriculum and look at the world around us in a different light, from multiple perspectives.

What a treat it has been for students and teachers alike! We enjoy the lessons as much as they do and are even getting a little more exercise in. Hurray for The Walking Classroom!
