One of Our Favorite Things? TWC!

06.07.22
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

Our fifth grade adopted The Walking Classroom this year with the help of our new principal. The students and parents both love it! It is definitely one of our favorite things to do in my classroom. Students enjoy getting exercise and learning new information.

The program was very easy to implement into our classroom schedule. Learning about new topics, reviewing already taught material, or previewing upcoming lessons through the podcasts has not only added to the children’s learning, but it has also added a fun way to enhance the teacher’s lessons.

We do an activity called News, Weather, Sports, and Saint of the Day. The children’s curiosity to know more about topics discussed in the podcasts has spilled over to this activity. They research and report on more facts and even have found videos to show pertaining to the topics. “Who’s On First?” (5-#19, Complete-#122) had them showing old clips of Abbott and Costello. This podcast was definitely a class favorite!

The lesson plans and quizzes on google forms are also extremely easy for me to incorporate as an educator. My class has often used the supplemental resources provided with the Adopter Resources to dig deeper into the topics presented in the podcasts. My only complaint is that we don’t have more time in our rigorous academic schedule to do The Walking Classroom every day!

The program has been a great addition to our curriculum and both the students and parents love the benefit of exercise with learning. I would highly recommend this program!
