Prepositions…who knew?

07.21.15
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

I just wanted to share a little something with you. Today we listened to our FAVORITE podcast yet! The one on prepositions. Prepositions??? Yep—prepositions.

My students loved this podcast for a couple of reasons. This was the first time they were doing something during the walk besides just walking and listening. It was so cool to see them all with their “boxes” and their “bunnies” demonstrating prepositions as we walked. For some it was a bit like rubbing your head and patting your tummy, but they loved it. The other great part about this podcast is they could sing along! For years I have used the preposition song sung to the tune of Yankee Doodle when teaching prepositions. I introduced this to the kids on Monday and we’ve practiced it every day this week. They had it memorized by the second day. They were sooooo excited when that song came on the podcast, and we all sang along as we finished our walk.

I want to thank you for such an awesome program! I feel validated when a strategy (SWBS for summaries, for example) or an activity (the Yankee Doodle song) that I have used for years, shows up on a podcast. So often we as teachers aren’t recognized for what we are doing right, so it’s so nice to see that this stuff I’m using is good enough to make the cut in the Walking Classroom. This program rocks!!
