Connecting Podcasts with Class Topics!

01.30.19
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

As a sixth grader teacher, I teach social studies and science to three different groups of students (70 students total). My students and I feel so fortunate to be able to participate in The Walking Classroom! They look forward to our walks every week, and I enjoy connecting the topics on the podcasts to what we are learning about in class!

When I originally heard about The Walking Classroom, I was very interested. I work a second job as a group fitness instructor and truly believe in the positive correlation between physical activity and cognitive function.

Prior to each walk, we discuss the topic and objectives, and the students are given questions to think about as we walk. Following the walk, we review the topic and the students write about what we’ve learned, connecting new information to what they already know.

The Walking Classroom is great for us. My students LOVE getting the opportunity to leave their desks, get outside, and walk and learn at the same time!
