Promoting Fitness with My Students

11.16.22
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

I am a third grade teacher in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. I live by the lake and walk the lake path all the time. A friend of mine knows about my love of walking and encouraged me to look into The Walking Classroom. She had volunteered at a school that used it. I was excited about The Walking Classroom because it could incorporate my love of walking along with promoting fitness with my students.

I received a class set of Walking Classroom materials and have done two lessons with my students so far. My students LOVE it and have all shared that it is their favorite part of the day. I look forward to seeing the impact it has on my students’ listening and comprehension skills. The Forward Exam shows that students have a weakness in the area of listening. I’m curious to see if data shows that students score higher on the listening portion after using The Walking Classroom.

Personally, I’m also interested in the long term impact it will have on my students. Will they love walking too? Will they check out digital books just to listen as they walk?

I look forward to finding a variety of ways to use the podcasts. I hope to incorporate a way for students to listen a second time during class time. So far I’m loving The Walking Classroom and hope to share the results with other teachers I work with too!
