Fourth Graders Enjoy TWC Experience!

06.09.21
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

Thank you for The Walking Classroom! Fourth grade students at Will Rogers Elementary thoroughly enjoyed the experience of simultaneously learning and exercising.

My after school “Walking Classroom Club” consisted of curious fourth grade students. The first thing we did as a group was look at the amazing range of podcast selections and pick the ones in which the group was most interested. This process was a great lesson in compromise!

We listened to almost all of the most popular recordings before the school year ended. Students were able to make connections between what they learned while walking and what they were learning in their regular classroom. They also made connections to fiction and nonfiction books they had previously read! Students learned wonderful new information and excitedly chattered amongst themselves when we came back together as a group after our walks.

Some of the students in my group have a difficult time accessing information via text. Providing them equitable access to information so that they could participate fully in discussions helped build their confidence as learners. This aspect of The Walking Classroom will create far reaching, positive outcomes for many students.
