A Difference Academically and Behaviorally

11.22.23
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

Hello fellow educators! I have been using The Walking Classroom for a few months now and I can attest to the difference it has made not only academically, but behaviorally as well.

My school is a Title I school with 70% free and reduced lunch. Sadly, our students’ school breakfast and lunch often consists of low carb, low nutritional value foods. For instance, each morning, students get a muffin and sometimes the lunch that day is pancakes, bosco sticks, or even worse, donuts and french toast sticks. It is very sad to think that my students do not have healthier choices while at school, since many go home to the same type of food. I am so glad that we can offer exercise while learning.

My students were so excited when I introduced the program. My favorite comment from a fourth grader was, “I like the responsibility I have to show while we do this.”

I tried to envision all of the issues we might encounter, none of which came true. The students are so engaged. Minus some slow walkers, their behavior has been stellar. They are more engaged in our math lessons when we return to the classroom.

Thanks to The Walking Classroom, my students will have an opportunity to work on their health and education for years to come.
