Several Years and Still on the Trail

10.13.21
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

I have had this program for several years now, and my students have continued to love The Walking Classroom. This year we were able to use it out on our track outside the school.

Since each student had their own WalkKit and earbuds, there wasn’t a problem with sharing and not being able to use the materials once we came back in person. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to go out as much as we would have liked because some of our class time was at the same time as those who were at home and we had to be online with them. However, my students did enjoy the times that we were able to get outside and walk and learn.

I love using The Walking Classroom to build background knowledge when a topic matches with what we are getting ready to learn. While I pick the podcasts that fit best with our curriculum units and put them at the best time of the year for us, I also enjoy asking my students what they are interested in learning about. I have them choose a podcast to listen to and then share out with the class what they learned. We usually do this more towards the end of the year, and it is always fun to see what topic they are most interested in!
