Refreshing to Review ELA Outdoors

08.23.23
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

Mrs. Q’s class have enjoyed their walks with The Walking Classroom. We have had so much rain recently, it was refreshing for these students to get out of the same four walls and review ELA topics during their Friday Walk time.

These are high school students, but having The Walking Classroom as a way to review and reiterate ELA topics with podcasts like Setting and Symbolism (4-#22, Complete-#6) and Summary Writing (4-#34, Complete-#20) has strengthened their abilities to build on prior knowledge in Mrs. Q’s English I curriculum. It has given their teacher another resource to help set them up for success in this class and in their future.

The Walking Classroom is helping these students to gain more skills in reading by reminding them of using context clues through podcasts like Learning in Context (4-#21, Complete-#11), and helping them understand different Types of Conflict (4-#45, 5-#68, Complete-#8) as they read and write. Mrs. Q says her students look forward to their Friday Walk time each week and ask for more.

Her students view The Walking Classroom as a reward. Some do not even realize they are learning as they walk. The Walking Classroom has been the difference Mrs. Q was looking for in her classroom!

Thank you, Walking Classroom!
