Ready, Set, Walk!

01.20.22
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

Let’s go walking! Ready, set , . . . wait! There are several steps to take before you get started. You have received your WalkKits. You are so excited to get outside and enjoy the weather, but taking the time to teach the students about the hardware is a priority. And, even prior to training them with the WalkKits, the first few sessions will be in the classroom.

I teach fourth grade and it is time to help students understand the importance of health and well-being, and The Walking Classroom helps! The Walking Classroom provides lessons to teach about heart rate (Yep, that’s right! Math during P.E!), and so many more reasons to emphasize the practice of daily walking.

In the past few years, students have watched me lose 60 pounds and now maintain it, all with only walking as my exercise. You can be that walking example as well. With the use of materials provided in the kit, students can learn how to walk safely in a group, monitor their heart rate, and learn why walking helps their brain. And, all of this before you even take the first step outside!

So, don’t rush the process, but don’t take it too slowly either. I will be the first to admit that this program went on the back burner during the past 18 months and I did not utilize it to its fullest potential. But don’t underestimate what these WalkKits can do for you and your students. Happy Trails!
