Today’s Walking Classroom focuses on the famous pioneer, Daniel Boone. Boone was a pioneer and a trailblazer during America’s early efforts to expand westward. Boone gained great fame for blazing the Wilderness Trail through the Cumberland Gap, a natural passage in the Appalachian Mountains. This passage allowed settlers easier entry into remote areas of Kentucky and Tennessee and contributed greatly to America’s westward expansion.
