Today’s Walking Classroom podcast focuses on one of the most influential women of the 1800s, Harriet Tubman. She played a critical role in helping many runaway slaves follow the Underground Railroad into freedom. Harriet Tubman was a huge supporter of the Union, or Northern states, and acted as a nurse and spy for the army. As a Union spy, she led soldiers along secret paths, helped map unknown territories, and recruited soldiers.
