Lincoln LEADers Walk, Listen, and Learn!

01.15.20
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

Our Title I school has a population of more than 600 kids, many of whom qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. We also have a large student population of English language learners. Our students are special because they are learning to be Lincoln LEADers. We value leadership, engagement, positive attitudes, and discipline of self.

When given the resources they need to succeed, our students are imaginative, creative, spontaneous, attentive, enthusiastic, and brilliant! These engaged and motivated learners seek out the next best adventure in a book.

Due to financial circumstances, they often have few chances outside of school to explore new means of gathering and retaining information. Thanks to The Walking Classroom, our fifth graders at Lincoln have the opportunity of a lifetime: exploring our outdoor classroom while learning about curriculum-relevant content in a fun, engaging format.

Since acquiring the program a year ago, Lincoln LEADers have engaged in The Walking Classroom program through their English language arts and social studies classrooms. They have listened to podcasts on an array of topics ranging from women’s roles in the Civil War to similes and metaphors.

The health messages delivered through the podcasts have provided beneficial opportunities for enriching class discussions on important lifestyle choices. As teachers, we also enjoy venturing outside of our classrooms for a bit of fresh air!

Without your kind contribution, our Lincoln LEADers would not have had the exposure to this new means of learning. Thank you for believing in our students and changing the way they read the world.
