Informed about Fitness Too!

posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

We have been using The Walking Classroom for a while now, and it has been amazing! My students are not only learning about content for fourth and fifth grade curriculum, they are also getting informed about fitness while exercising!

The podcasts that The Walking Classroom provides are well written and there are many to choose from. They are age-appropriate with interesting facts about the subjects. The Walking Classroom also provides pre- and post- lessons and quizzes. One of the best parts is the videos which add an extension to the curriculum.

Another added positive to The Walking Classroom is the fact that the lessons start with mini-lessons and information about being healthy. These are a great reinforcement for students to practice healthy habits they can carry through life. Often the students and I will have discussions about the health lessons along with the subject of the walk.

The most exciting part of the lesson is getting out and walking. Of course, the obvious reasons are for students to be active and get more exercise during the day. But quite a few of my students have told me they love to go outside and get fresh air. So many times, students are sitting for most of the day. Going outside and walking while learning is different and it changes things up!

My students and I are very grateful to have access to The Walking Classroom. My hope is that more schools will integrate it into their curriculum and discover the benefits my students and I have experienced.
