Excited to Get Started, and Still Going!

posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

I received our set of WalkKits right before school started in 2019. I was so excited to get started, and the students were intrigued. We loved getting outside and listening to the podcasts.

I chose to start with the podcasts about figurative language. It was a perfect fit with our narrative writing that we worked on when we got back to class. Discussions easily went back to Walking Classroom podcasts. We continued regularly, walking two to three times a week until March 13, 2020, when we left school and did not return live that year.

Last school year, my students were not in person in the class until April of 2021. Right away, I started them on The Walking Classroom. And since I only was allowed twelve students at a time, I was able to share my WalkKits with the other fourth grade class.

We walked together in the beautiful weather of Port Hueneme, California. It was wonderful. After being online for school and mostly indoors for over a year, our students loved walking and listening to interesting and humorous podcasts. We had great discussions and writing when we returned to class.

Thank you so much for this opportunity. The Walking Classroom provided great relief and fun learning time, especially this year.
