Engaging Activity for Students

10.11.23
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

As a teacher of gifted students, I’m always looking for activities that are engaging, creative and stimulate learning for my students. The Walking Classroom podcasts provide all those thing for my students along with exercise!

Students are excited to get outside and learn something new or add to what they might be learning in their regular education classroom. The Walking Classroom aligns to the curriculum and is easy to use. My fourth and fifth grade students look forward to this activity each week.

Here is one comment from a fourth-grade student about the podcast Women of the Civil War (5-#49, Complete-#80).

“Today the podcast showed us how awesome women were during that time in history. We learned more about Harriet Beecher Stowe, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, and Clara Barton. These women all had character traits such as bravery, determination, courage, leadership, optimism, determination, and perseverance. Without knowing about these great women leaders and their contribution in history, other women might not have had the opportunity to shine or show their great contributions. We know women are just as capable as men!”

Students look forward to discussing and sharing their thoughts on the podcasts. They even make suggestions on the next podcast they would like to hear by looking at the content list on the back of the device case. Students also come away from the walk with more energy and ready to tackle the rest of the day!
