A Different Way to Learn!

09.01.21
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

I have almost 70 students. As I introduced The Walking Classroom to each class, all of the students were thrilled! They felt excited at the possibility of trying something new. With The Walking Classroom, they experienced a different way to learn, one which they had never experienced before.

To try out the program, first we simply stayed in our classroom, rather than walking around outside. I wanted to ensure their readiness first. Then as they got used to the program, we ventured into the school hallways. The students liked this! They enjoyed learning and being active at the same time.

Finally, we went outside and used the program the way it was meant to be used. Every time we finished a walk, the kids looked forward to the next time we would use The Walking Classroom.

After walking, they wrote in their journals about what they learned from the podcast. I also had them talk to their neighbor about what the podcast meant to them — their “take away”! While sometimes we would all use the same podcast, occasionally I even let them select their own podcast! Using The Walking Classroom has been a great experience for my students.
