Teach More Than Just the Content with TWC

07.24.19
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

As a teacher, I try to teach more than just the content by trying to educate students on wellness and fitness. The Walking Classroom is a perfect way to blend the two together.

I was very excited when I had the opportunity to introduce the WalkKits and podcasts to my students. This program allows them to build background before learning new content or review information already taught in class . . . all while walking!! The more you hear or see, the more you remember!

At Harrowgate Elementary, we incorporate The Walking Classroom three times a week, walking in the afternoon, right when students are ready to get up and move. We definitely get our steps in for the day, breathe in the fresh air, soak up the sun, and just enjoy walking around! The Walking Classroom has really made an impact in my fifth graders’ everyday learning and exercise!

My students have really been enjoying The Walking Classroom. This program helps me teach more than the concepts, and that’s why I am truly grateful!

My favorite statement came from one of my students, who said, “When we get out, I let all the stress roll off my back and just relax.” My students didn’t think that just walking could improve their well-being, but they are well aware of it now!

Thank you for allowing us this opportunity to get outside, breathe in the fresh air, exercise, and learn!
