Loving our new Tuesday and Thursday routine

08.25.15
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

We are loving the program and we currently walk every Tuesday and Thursday morning. We have our routine pretty much set, and my students are doing great! Students do a little stretching while I introduce some of the vocabulary and the topic, they then grab their numbered kit, line up outside and we begin walking (while recording our distance and time on a GPS walking app). Next week we will begin writing our thank you letters.

I am happy to see many of the podcasts are aligned beautifully with the Common Core Standards! We have learned about idioms, imagery, and conflict, just to name a few! I have also been using a very useful worksheet that I found on a teacher’s website where the students draw a picture of something they learned, and write a quick summary about it. It really has held them accountable and encourages them to listen carefully to the podcast each and every walk so that they will have something to write about.

Tomorrow we are taking a language arts unit test on some language arts standards, and I know the extra support of these podcasts will help them tremendously. Two of our Assistant Superintendents dropped by this week for a visit and were really excited to learn about the program and said they were going to spread the word around. Thanks again for providing us with this excellent resource!
