It’s Time to Listen to a Podcast!

posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

My fifth grade class received The Walking Classroom this school year and I absolutely love this program! My students get very excited when I tell them it’s time to listen to a Walking Classroom podcast.

I start each lesson with a preview and discussion from the Walking Classroom website. I use the link to videos and slides about the podcast topic. We discuss the subject, and then we go on our walk. They really enjoy their walk, and they stay pretty focused as they listen to each podcast.

When we finish, we discuss the topic again and what new things they learned. I love that I can also give them little quizzes that the program includes on the topic. They know they need to pay attention to the podcasts, because they know I may be testing them on the topic with a quick google form.

Every topic we have used has matched my curriculum perfectly! We have learned about figurative language, poetry, explorers, inventors, and famous Americans just to name a few!

I also love that they are getting exercise while they are listening to the podcasts! It’s especially perfect for some of my students who have a hard time sitting still in the classroom. With The Walking Classroom, they get to move while they are learning! I am so thankful that I found this program, and highly recommend it for others to try!
