Get Students Active with TWC

01.25.22
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

I first heard about Walking Classroom through a co-worker who teaches fourth grade. As a teacher and coach who LOVES to be active and to get her students active, I knew this program was for me! After some discussion with my fellow fifth grade teachers, we applied for a grant through our local PTO and also received a matching grant from The Walking Classroom. Before long, we had our very own fifth grade set of WalkKits.

I was so excited to see the expansive lists of podcasts offered! They flow so nicely with our ELA and science standards and also fit in very well with our social studies curriculum. After we listened to our first few podcasts while taking walks, students immediately fell in love with Walking Classroom days and were always begging for more! They love getting outside and being active while learning!

During the 2020-2021 school year, we were fortunate enough to be in-person the entire school year. We were encouraged from the beginning of the school year to get outside as much as possible and get the kids some fresh air, along with allowing them to spread out and take breaks from their masks. The Walking Classroom was PERFECT for this! Not only were we getting outside and taking mask breaks–we were learning while we walked!

I am always so impressed at how Walking Classroom goes beyond the textbook and gives the students additional facts and information that they never forget! It never ceases to amaze me at how much students pick up on even the smallest of details.
