An Engaging Introduction to Curricular Topics

11.24.21
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

The Walking Classroom is the perfect additional resource to have in my classroom. I truly appreciate the way that it provides an engaging introduction to social studies units and science topics. I also see improvements in my students’ moods after we go for our walks. It is so nice to be able to move and learn at the same time!

The social studies podcasts can be used to just touch on a topic that is relevant to the time of year or to use as a hook for full lessons. The kids enjoy them a lot. These podcasts give them a chance to build some background knowledge and vocabulary to practice and use during our lessons. These are especially beneficial to my English Language Learners and kids that aren’t familiar with the topic.

The program also helps with language arts, as it makes learning grammar more fun for kids. The grammar podcasts are wonderful for a deeper dive into the topics. The kids get more engaged. They even get the opportunity for more practice before they are expected to incorporate the new skill into their everyday writing.

The students especially like hearing other kids talk about the topics we are learning. The excitement that the kids talking on the podcast demonstrate excites the students in my class! This excitement then transfers to our other lessons on the topic of focus.

After a year of distance and hybrid learning, I am very excited to incorporate this engaging program into my classroom again this year. We are going to get outside and away from those screens! It is going to be much needed and awesome!
