Address Core Standards through Listening

04.07.22
posted by a Walking Classroom Adopter

I absolutely love this program! The Walking Classroom is an amazing tool. It provides my students an opportunity to learn CORE standards through listening and exercising.

My students are engaged and ready to go on a daily walk while listening to podcasts. They listen while walking. Then, they share their new knowledge of the topics the following day during instruction. Their favorites are anything about science, especially the current topics we are covering. This week, we even learned more about figurative language. I am seeing the benefits of “preloading” many skills/ideas through the podcasts.

Thanks to The Walking Classroom, my students are learning by “hearing” a fluent reader. They are able to process new or old information in a different way. Not only is listening comprehension important; my students have grown in their communication skills. They are able to process information, share it with others, and even offer extension information. This is beneficial because now many of my shyer students are thriving with their speaking and listening skills.

This collaboration is fundamental to learning in the twenty-first century classroom. This is such an amazing program!
